Speaker Bio:

Iain MacDonald is the Regional Director of Sales for dibrokerWest in northern California. He is utilizing nearly 15 years in financial services to help financial planners and insurance agents provide income protection solutions to their clients. His background in personal production has given him a unique perspective as a wholesaler who is able to assist producers in presenting and implementing disability insurance products to the executive and business owner markets.

Iain holds the Chartered Life Underwriter® designation and is a past president of NAIFA Greater Bay Area. He was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, and relocated to the San Francisco Bay area in 2013 to build the dibrokerWest office from scratch.

In his spare time he enjoys chasing his identical twin nephews and niece around in Scottsdale, AZ. He never misses and opportunity to travel home to Seattle and watch his Seahawks at Lumen Field. Go HAWKS!

SAHU Scores Success with 2021 Golf Tournament

SACRAMENTO, CA 27 May 2021 — The 2021 Annual SAHU Golf Tournament scored as a success with attendees, sponsors, and volunteers alike. The event, held on Friday May 21^st at The Ridge Golf Course in Auburn, CA and sponsored by Western Health Advantage, drew 17 sponsors, 20 volunteers and over 100 attendees.

“The weather was great,” said Helen Ornellas, Executive Director for SAHU. “Little windy but a lot of fun!”

Participants started the tournament with coffee, breakfast and an open driving range before the 9:00 AM tee time. Sponsored tees throughout the course offered golfers fun, refreshments and networking with fellow industry leaders, including a Golf Cannon Hole sponsored by Ameritas and specialty Margarita Hole sponsored by Beam Dental.

A gourmet luncheon sponsored by Word & Brown followed the tournament to highlight winners, give away raffle prizes and bring attendees together in the beautiful Ridge Clubhouse Bar & Grill. Prizes were given away to raffle winners as well as various tournament competition winners, including Closest to the Pin, Longest Drive Men’s and Women’s, and Overall Scores.

Google Announces Important Update for Health Insurance Advertisers

SACRAMENTO, CA 18 May 2021 — Google has released an important advertising policy update for health insurance advertisers. Starting on June 2, 2021, in order to help ensure a safe and trustworthy experience for users, only government exchanges, first-party providers and licensed third-party health insurance brokers who complete the new third-party certification program will be eligible to advertise on Google.

About the Policy Update

The certification program is provided by a third-party vendor, G2. It requires health insurance advertisers to identify themselves as a health insurance provider, certify that they are permitted to lawfully promote and sell health insurance in their locations of business, and confirm whether or not they are registered to promote and sell Affordable Care Act-compliant health plans.

Health insurance brokers must be complete the certification for each state in which they wish to advertise, and there are fees based on how many states for which you would like to apply.

To complete the application, you will need your general business information, insurance license information and proof of ACA qualification, if applicable. Certification applications opened on May 3, and the Google policy will go into effect on June 2 of this year.

What This Means for Brokers & Agencies

This means that if you are a licensed health insurance broker and wish to advertise on Google, including search, display, shopping and video advertising campaigns, you must complete the new certification process by June 2.

“If you are a health insurance agent in the field today, you need to know about this update and be proactive,” said Rosamaria Marrujo, Media Relations & Medicare Chair for the Sacramento Association of Health Underwriters (SAHU). “It is a marketing opportunity and a way to stay a leader in our industry.”

On July 9, 2019, our chapter hosted a fun Vanguard Family Movie Night event, where chapter members attended with their families for food and fun for all at a local outdoor venue. The event was sponsored by LISI and hosted by the Vanguard team.

In November 2019, we successfully held our Annual Toy Drive to benefit the River Oak Center for Children. We finished the year with our Annual Food Drive and Chili Cook-off in December, bringing together chapter members to enjoy the holidays and support the Sacramento Food Bank.

Our January 2020 Annual Crab Feed was one of our best ever, with over 400 attendees and a record-setting Live Auction to help raise funds for our chapter and related charitable causes.

Prior to the COVID-19 shutdown, SAHU Members & Board Chairs attended the NAHU Capitol Conference in Washington, D.C. from February 24-26, 2020.

We stood strong as a chapter as the world changed under COVID-19, altering our meetings and events to keep our members and community safe. We took member meetings to Zoom to allow attendees to stay connected, as well as provided ongoing professional development and training with CE courses.

We closed our Board Year with participation in the NAHU Annual Convention in June, held virtually for the first time as well. Members attended virtual sessions and networked with fellow professionals.

Our awards and certifications from this year included winning the 2020 Pacesetter Award for the sixth year in a row, and being NAHU Gold Certified for the fourth continuous year.

Looking ahead to next year, we are dedicated to maintaining our chapter, ongoing education, fundraising and events as much as possible in the face of COVID restrictions. Our members are proud to keep working for the betterment of the health, financial and retirement needs of our local community and all Californians through our education, advocacy, legislation and professional development.
